Dhaka, 20 January (H.S.): The University of Asia Pacific (UAP), a prominent private institution in Bangladesh, has dismissed two faculty members—Assistant Professor Layeka Bashir and Associate Professor Dr. ASM Mohsin—from its Department of Basic Sciences and Humanities following accusations of blasphemy and support for the Awami League.
University spokesperson Sadik Hassan Palash confirmed the terminations, stating that both professors' services ended on Saturday, January 17, 2026. Dr. Mohsin had served as the department head, while Bashir was an assistant professor in the same unit.
According to a Dhaka Tribune report, the educators have vehemently denied the charges, asserting that a powerful faction within the university management orchestrated their removal. Some students and observers allege the dismissals occurred under the guise of a protest movement, sparking widespread criticism on social media platforms.
