Muscat, 31 May (H.S.): Oman's maritime security agency has issued a warning after a suspected floating torpedo (mine) was sighted in the Strait of Hormuz. The agency urged sailors, fishermen and ship operators to exercise extreme caution when transiting the area. In a statement posted on X, the agency said an object that is suspected to be a mine was observed near Hormuz within Omani waters. All maritime users were advised to keep a safe distance from any suspicious object and to report it immediately to the relevant authorities.

According to an ABC News report, Omani authorities issued the alert on Saturday, warning all vessels to be cautious. The Oman Maritime Security Centre said a suspicious floating object (possibly a naval torpedo) was sighted in Omani waters off the Strait of Hormuz.

The object was observed just west of the strait’s inshore traffic zone. Mariners, fishermen and commercial ships were advised to avoid the area and report the sighting immediately. Oman’s Ministry of Defence also called on everyone to follow the advisory.
