DHAKA, May 31 (H.S.): Another child suffering from measles has died at Faridpur Medical College Hospital in Bangladesh, taking the death toll from the disease in Faridpur district to 18 during the month of May. The deceased, Tasim, was the son of Asim Mia of Jhenaidah town.

According to a report by the Dhaka Tribune, hospital sources said that Tasim was admitted to Faridpur Medical College Hospital on May 29. He succumbed to the disease while undergoing treatment during the past 24 hours.

Data from the Faridpur Civil Surgeon’s Office showed that 91 new patients exhibiting measles symptoms were admitted to government hospitals across the district over the last 24 hours. During the same period, 45 patients recovered and were discharged.

At present, 183 patients are receiving treatment in various hospitals across the district, including 118 children admitted to Faridpur Medical College Hospital. Health officials stated that the majority of those infected are children.

Faridpur Civil Surgeon Dr. Mahmudul Hasan said that all necessary medicines, equipment, and personnel have been arranged in accordance with government directives.

He noted that the recent rise in measles cases may be linked to children returning to their villages from different areas during the Eid al-Adha holidays.

Dr. Niranjan Bhowmik, a specialist at Faridpur Children’s Hospital, said that measles is a highly contagious disease. He advised that immediate medical attention should be sought if an infected child develops fever, red rashes on the body, cough, or breathing difficulties.
