According to police and local sources, Sarkar, a resident of Faridpur district, was a student of the 10th batch of Jagannath University. His body was found hanging from a ceiling fan in his rented mess room in the Bhattikhana area under Gendaria police station limits in Old Dhaka at around 10 pm on Sunday (January 18).

Classmates said Sarkar had been living in the mess for a long time.
