The stall is a collaborative initiative by the Citizen Consumer and Civic Action Group (CAG), the Tamil Nadu Green Energy Corporation Limited (TNGECL), ASAR social impact advisors, and Poovulagin Nanbargal. It aims to educate the public on the economic and environmental benefits of rooftop solar energy, particularly focusing on the various loans and subsidies provided under Union government schemes.
Addressing the significance of the initiative, Subramani M, a researcher in electricity governance at CAG, stated that while many consumers are aware of solar technology, they remain largely unfamiliar with the implementation process and its long-term advantages.
He noted that Tamil Nadu currently ranks sixth or seventh in solar energy production among Indian states and possesses immense potential that remains untapped due to a lack of public awareness. To bridge this gap, CAG has developed a specialized tool called the rooftop solar explorer.
This tool allows users to enter their service connection number to receive a detailed assessment based on their specific location. The researcher mentioned that the tool would soon be integrated with the TNPDC website for public access.
Visitors from neighboring districts such as Tiruvallur and Kancheepuram expressed keen interest in reducing their high electricity bills through these sustainable energy solutions.
