New Delhi, 19 January (H.S.): The Delhi High Court bench of Justice Ravindra Dudeja rejected former BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar's bail application on Monday in the case pertaining to the custodial death of the Unnao rape victim's father.

The court noted that Sengar has already served approximately seven-and-a-half years of his 10-year sentence. It held Sengar responsible for delays in his conviction challenge, attributing them to multiple pending petitions filed by him.

On December 16, 2019, Tis Hazari Court sentenced Kuldeep Singh Sengar to 10 years' rigorous imprisonment for the custodial murder of the rape victim's father, imposing a ₹10 lakh fine. The court convicted all seven accused, including Sengar, sentencing each to 10 years' imprisonment and ₹10 lakh fines.

The victim's father died in judicial custody on April 9, 2018. Following the rape victim's accusation against Kuldeep Sengar on June 4, 2017, Sengar's brother Atul Singh and associates brutally assaulted the victim's father before handing him over to police.

Hours after transfer to jail, he succumbed at the district hospital. On December 20, 2019, Tis Hazari Court awarded Sengar life imprisonment in the rape case itself, alongside a ₹25 lakh fine—₹10 lakh earmarked for the victim. Sengar has also challenged this verdict in Delhi High Court.
