BJP National President Election Kicks Off: Nitin Nabin's Accession Virtually Certain

New Delhi, 19 January (H.S.): Nomination process for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National President position commenced at 2:00 PM on Monday at the party's central headquarters. Party insiders widely expect General Secretary (Organisation) Nitin Nabin's unopposed election to the top post.

At the outset of the designated 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM nomination window, party president JP Nadda, former presidents Rajnath Singh and Nitin Gadkari, and Home Minister Amit Shah—accompanied by senior leaders including Union Ministers Dharmendra Pradhan, Kiren Rijiju, and Bhupender Yadav—submitted proposal letters to Returning Officer Dr. K Laxman endorsing Nitin Nabin.

Union Minister of Minority Affairs Jyotiraditya Scindia informed journalists outside party premises that the first set of nominations, bearing Prime Minister Narendra Modi's signature, stands completed. State-level nominations will continue until evening. Post-scrutiny and formalities, official announcement occurs Tuesday at 11:00 AM.

Per the election schedule, nomination scrutiny runs from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM, with withdrawal deadline at 6:00 PM. Polling, if multiple candidates file, takes place January 20.

Party sources indicate only formalities remain before declaring Nitin Nabin elected, dismissing prospects of rival candidacies. Jharkhand BJP former president Babulal Marandi hailed BJP as a cadre-based organisation enabling ordinary workers' ascent to highest office, extending advance congratulations to Nabin and predicting party strengthening under his leadership.

Notably, established in 1980, BJP's National Presidents have included Atal Bihari Vajpayee, LK Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi, Kushabhau Thakre, Bangaru Laxman, M Venkaiah Naidu, Rajnath Singh, Nitin Gadkari, Amit Shah, and JP Nadda.
