Darrang (Assam), 19 January (HS): The District Road Safety Committee (DRSC), Darrang, on Monday reviewed the road accident scenario in the district at a meeting held at the conference hall of the District Commissioner’s office, Mangaldoi, under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner and DRSC Chairperson Pubali Gohain.
During the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner examined recent road accident trends based on detailed data analysis. The review revealed that most accidents were caused by human behaviour, with driver distraction emerging as the most common factor. Rear-end collisions were found to be the most frequent type of accidents, largely due to sudden braking and failure to maintain safe distance.
The analysis also highlighted area-specific issues, with speeding-related violations more prevalent in Sipajhar and Dalgaon police station areas, while Dhula and Mangaldoi police station areas were mainly affected by congestion-related problems. The Kharupetia police station area was found to be more vulnerable to road and weather-related factors.
Various preventive measures were discussed, including speed-calming interventions at accident-prone junctions, improved traffic management in crowded market areas, strict enforcement against traffic violations, road safety awareness initiatives and improvement of road infrastructure in rural areas. Emphasis was laid on coordinated efforts among all stakeholder departments to reduce road accidents in the district.
The meeting was attended by Additional Superintendent of Police Rozy Talukdar, ADC Anurag Phukan, Assistant Commissioners, officials from PWRD, the District Transport Office, National Highways division, Health Department and other concerned departments.---------
