
Guwahati, 19 January (HS): The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) witnessed a festive atmosphere across several stations following the inauguration of the Vande Bharat Sleeper Express and Amrit Bharat Express trains by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 17 and 18 respectively. The new services mark a major step towards strengthening long-distance rail connectivity in the region.
Stations including Moranhat, Furkating, Lumding, Jagirod, Rangiya, New Bongaigaon, Alipurduar and New Jalpaiguri saw large gatherings of local residents who turned out to welcome the inaugural runs. Traditional cultural programmes, folk music and dance performances added colour and vibrancy to the celebrations at station premises.
The Vande Bharat Sleeper Express, India’s first sleeper version under the Vande Bharat brand, drew appreciation for its modern amenities, enhanced safety features and improved overnight travel comfort. The Amrit Bharat Express trains, aimed at providing affordable and comfortable travel, were also warmly received by passengers.
NFR officials said the enthusiastic public response highlights the growing demand for better railway services in the Northeast. The Northeast Frontier Railway reaffirmed its commitment to modernization and improving passenger experience through the introduction of new-generation train services.-----------
