Cachar (Assam), 18 January (HS): In a major crackdown against illegal liquor trafficking, police in Silchar seized 195 cartons of foreign liquor during a special operation conducted in the town last night.

According to police sources, the consignment was being smuggled from Meghalaya to Mizoram when it was intercepted. Acting on specific inputs, the police stopped a truck and recovered the illegal liquor hidden inside the vehicle.

The truck driver, identified as Masul Ahmed, along with co-accused Abdul Wahid, has been arrested in connection with the case. Both were taken into custody for their alleged role in transporting the contraband.

Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the law and further investigation is underway to ascertain the wider network involved in the smuggling racket.----------
