Dev's 'postage stamp' controversy: Journalist fact-checks, Suvendu Adhikari slams TMC

Kolkata, 18 January (H.S.): A political controversy is escalating over a post made by Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP and actor Dev (Deepak Adhikari) on the social media platform X. Dev shared a picture of a postage stamp, writing that he was deeply honored and overwhelmed that India Post had issued a stamp in his name.

However, a journalist fact-checked this claim, stating that it is not an official commemorative postage stamp issued by the Government of India. According to the journalist, the stamp is a personalized postage stamp created under India Post's My Stamp service, which any citizen can obtain for a fee of approximately ₹300. It has no connection to government honor or national recognition.

BJP leader and Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, has now weighed in on the issue. He shared the journalist's post on X on Sunday, reacting sharply.

Suvendu Adhikari wrote, Yet another example of TMC's culture of deception and self-glorification ! This honour as claimed is not a commemorative stamp or national recognition, but a service provided by India Post to every citizen to have a personalized stamp.

When will TMC stop misleading Bengal?

Following Suvendu Adhikari's statement, the matter has become a subject of political debate. The opposition is calling it an attempt to mislead the public, while neither the TMC nor MP Dev had issued any official clarification at the time of filing this report.
