Toronto, August 6 (H.S.): Taylor Fritz and Ben Shelton advanced to the semifinals of the Canadian Open 2025, marking the first all-American semifinal in 15 years at an ATP Masters 1000 event. Fritz, seeded second, triumphed over sixth-seeded Andrey Rublev with a score of 6-3, 7-6 (4), delivering 20 aces, including the decisive one in the tiebreak. Shelton, the fourth seed, defeated ninth-seeded Alex de Minaur 6-3, 6-4, reaching his first ATP Masters 1000 semifinal.

Today's historic matchup between Fritz and Shelton is reminiscent of the last all-American semifinal in 2010 featuring Andy Roddick and Mardy Fish. The second semifinal will see top-seeded Alexander Zverev face 11th-seeded Karen Khachanov, with Zverev seeking to defend his 2017 Montreal title.

Fritz started aggressively against Rublev, breaking serve quickly to secure a comfortable first set. After a tense second set, Fritz broke at a crucial moment, but Rublev responded to push it to a tiebreak, where Fritz ultimately prevailed.

Notably, several top players, including world number 1 Jannik Sinner, withdrew from the tournament. Rublev's early exit in the fourth round follows his runner-up finish in Montreal last year. Fritz aims for his 11th ATP Tour title and second Masters 1000, having lost to Sinner in last year's US Open final.
