Nagpur, 30
Aug (HS): The National OBC Federation has launched a chain hunger strike in
Nagpur, demanding that Maratha community reservation be given under a separate
category and not by cutting into the existing OBC quota. The agitation began at
Samvidhan Chowk on Saturday is led by the Federation’s National President
Babanrao Taywade. A large number of OBC activists joined the agitation.
The protest
comes in response to the ongoing agitation by Manoj Jarange in Mumbai, where
the demand has been raised to grant reservation to the Maratha community under
the OBC quota. The OBC Federation, however, has made it clear that while they
are not opposed to Maratha reservation, they will not allow it to be implemented at the expense of OBC rights.
Federation
leaders reiterated that OBCs have struggled for decades to secure their
rightful share, and any attempt to reduce their quota will be strongly opposed.
The chain hunger strike in Nagpur is part of a broader statewide agitation to
safeguard OBC interests.
