Jhansi, 27 Aug (HS): Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel
recommended on Wednesday that institutions in the state promote social research
and enforce a 75% student attendance policy. Patel, speaking at Bundelkhand
University's 30th convocation, encouraged students to learn new technologies by
drawing inspiration from ancient writings. She also encouraged female students
to pick life mates with excellent morals and emphasized seminars on societal
issues including female foeticide and dowry.
To move the country ahead, students must learn with a fresh perspective,
undertake research, and execute it. Install CCTV cameras if necessary to ensure
75% attendance, and students should not be permitted to enroll in subsequent
semesters unless this is done. The governor stated that teachers should not be
more than a minute late and should be able to extend lecture hours if needed.
She expressed
worry over delayed research initiatives, saying, It is unfortunate that
we cannot explain why many research works do not progress. Any study is
intended for the public welfare, and we are falling behind. Such undertakings
must go fast.” She also requested assistance from the Defence Research and
Development Organisation (DRDO) to establish defence research courses in state
institutions. Dr Chandrika Kaushik, DRDO Director General (Production
Coordination & Services Interaction), was the event's chief guest. Speaking on the occasion, Kaushik stated that
India is virtually self-sufficient in defence and is expanding into exports.
Half of our pupils are women, yet barely 15-20% enter the workforce. The
country can only prosper if everyone contributes. She encouraged pupils to
invent with purpose and never give up. At the convocation, 67 students were
awarded medals, while 35,009 students got degrees. A total of 66 researchers
from five faculties received PhD degrees at the occasion.
