Guwahati, 27 August (HS): Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday announced that the Ministry of Finance has issued an official gazette notification for the release of a ₹100 commemorative coin in honour of Bharat Ratna Dr Bhupen Hazarika on the occasion of his birth centenary.
Calling it a “timeless recognition for Dr Bhupen Hazarika”, the Chief Minister expressed heartfelt gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for due respect to the musical legend, who is fondly remembered as Sudhakanth.
Dr Sarma remarked that the gesture will not only immortalize the centenary celebrations of Dr Hazarika but also highlight his unparalleled contributions to music, literature, and the cultural identity of Assam on a global platform.
The Chief Minister further stated that under PM Modi’s leadership, the legacy of Dr Hazarika has consistently received national and international recognition, making the centenary year even more memorable for the people of Assam and admirers worldwide.
