Delhi, 5 July (H.S.): President Trump signed a comprehensive domestic policy bill dubbed the big beautiful bill during a July Fourth ceremony at the White House, highlighted by a B-2 bomber flyover. Republican members of Congress who supported the bill gathered around him, demonstrating their approval as he enacted the legislation. While the bill did not satisfy all Republicans, it was passed before the July Fourth deadline. Trump stated that the bill contained elements appealing to all lawmakers, which facilitated its support.
The president acknowledged Senate Majority Leader John Thune and House Speaker Mike Johnson for their roles in the bill's passage, expressing confidence in their leadership. After a narrow 218-214 vote in the House, the legislation was secured with the assistance of Republican negotiations and Trump's direct involvement.
Key provisions include an increase of the child tax credit to $2,200, stricter Medicaid requirements potentially affecting millions, and enhancements for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. It allocates over $46.5 billion for border wall construction and $45 billion for expanding immigration detention capacity.
Additionally, it raises the state and local tax deduction cap to $40,000 and extends several tax breaks while terminating others from the Inflation Reduction Act. The bill also raises the debt ceiling by $5 trillion to avert imminent fiscal issues, ultimately reflecting Trump's campaign promises and policy priorities.
