Agartala, 5 July (HS): A potential rift within Tipra Motha surfaced as party MLA Ranjit Debbarma threatened to pull out of the alliance with the ruling BJP in Tripura. However, party founder Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma sought to quell concerns, terming the statement an outcome of “frustration.”

Ranjit Debbarma’s remarks came amid dissatisfaction over the Centre's delay in addressing key demands such as the implementation of MHA guidelines against illegal Bangladeshi immigrants, the 125th Constitutional Amendment, and the Tiprasa Accord.

Downplaying the development, Pradyot said he was unaware of Ranjit's comments but would be speaking to him soon. “Whatever he said reflects the frustration of the people. Indigenous communities are feeling insecure due to unchecked cross-border migration. That needs to be addressed seriously,” he remarked.

Assuring that talks are still on track, Pradyot stated he is in regular contact with Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha and Union Home Minister Amit Shah has granted an appointment this month. “We’ll wait for that discussion. If the demands remain unfulfilled, only then shall we decide the next course of action,” he clarified.

He further mentioned that the Chief Minister has reassured him of efforts to honor the Tiprasa Accord and reach an amicable resolution.
