Kolkata, 25 July (H.S.) Famous poet and senior journalist Rahul Purkayastha died at a private hospital in Kolkata Friday afternoon at 2.10 pm. Born in 1964, Rahul was considered a symbol of a sanyasini sadhana in the world of words.
His health suddenly started deteriorating from 22 July. When the condition became serious, the doctors decided to install a pacemaker, but due to the rapid spread of sepsis, six organs of the body had stopped working. He breathed his last on Friday.
Equally adept in both poetry and journalism, Rahul had been writing poems since the 1980s and about 20 of his poetry collections were published. He was associated with Zee 24 Ghanta since its inception and later also worked as a consulting editor at TV9 Bangla.
Rahul Purkayastha is no longer among us, but his poems, language and struggle are still alive in the minds of readers.
