- The number of people arrested from different parts of the state increased to 81
Guwahati, 1 June (HS): Assam Police has so far sent 81 people to jail for supporting the enemy nation. This was confirmed by Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday by sharing a post on social media. The Chief Minister has informed that two more persons were arrested in Assam for being “anti-national”, taking the total number of such arrests to 81 since the Pahalgam terror attack in April.
Dr. Sarma confirmed that Sonitpur Police arrested Md. Dilbar Hussain and Kamrup Police arrested Hafizur Rahman. He said, “Now 81 anti-nationals are behind bars for sympathizing with Pakistan… Our system is constantly monitoring and taking action on anti-national posts on social media.”
It is noteworthy that earlier, opposition party AIUDF MLA Aminul Islam became the first person to be arrested in a sedition case for allegedly defending Pakistan and its complicity in the Pahalgam terror attack.
After getting bail, he was later detained under the National Security Act (NSA). It is known that Dr. Sarma had warned of strict action against those raising the slogan Pakistan Zindabad after the Jammu and Kashmir terror attack.
