AIADMK Announces Nominees for June 19 Rajya Sabha Elections

Chennai, 1 June (H.S.) : The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) has announced its nominees for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections scheduled for June 19. The party's general secretary, Edappadi K Palaniswami, has nominated IS Inbadurai, a former legislator and advocate wing secretary, and M Dhanapal, the Chengelpet-East District party presidium chairman and ex-MLA.

The elections aim to fill six Rajya Sabha seats from Tamil Nadu, with prominent members like PMK's Anbumani Ramadoss and MDMK's Vaiko set to retire on July 24, 2025. Based on the current composition of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, the DMK is expected to win four seats, while the AIADMK is likely to secure two seats with the support of its allies, including the BJP.

The DMK has already announced its candidates, re-nominating senior advocate P Wilson and naming Salem-based leader SR Sivalingam and poet-writer Ruqayya Malik. The party has also allotted one seat to its ally, Makkal Needhi Maiam, which has nominated its founder,

actor-politician Kamal Haasan. All six nominees, three from DMK, two from AIADMK, and Haasan, are expected to be elected unopposed.

In a significant development, AIADMK has also decided to offer one Rajya Sabha seat to its alliance partner Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) during the next vacancy in 2026. This move highlights the party's efforts to strengthen its alliances and consolidate its position in the state's electoral politics
