Delhi, 3 May (H.S.): Pakistani troops have been engaging in unprovoked firing along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara, Uri, and Akhnoor regions, leading to a retaliatory response from the Indian Army, as reported on Saturday. This marks the ninth consecutive night of ceasefire violations by Pakistan, which has escalated tensions following the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam that resulted in 26 fatalities. The Indian Army confirmed that, on the night of May 2-3, the Pakistan Army engaged in unprovoked small-arms fire across the LoC, prompting a prompt and proportionate response.
Earlier, on the night of May 1-2, similar unprovoked firing was reported from multiple posts across the LoC in Kupwara, Baramulla, Poonch, Naushera, and Akhnoor, leading to calibrated responses from India. The violations escalated with Pakistani firing extending from the Kashmir Valley to the Poonch and Akhnoor sectors, and later to Rajouri’s Sunderbani and Naushera sectors, as well as the Pargwal sector along the International Border. The ceasefire breaches coincided with India’s suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty after the Pahalgam attack.
