New Delhi, May 3 (H.S.): On Saturday, voice and handwriting samples of Tahawwur Rana, the accused and conspirator of the 2008 Mumbai terrorist attacks, were taken at the Patiala House Court in Delhi. The NIA presented Tahawwur Rana before Judicial Magistrate Vaibhav Kumar to collect the samples. Tahawwur Rana is currently in NIA custody.

The Patiala House Court had extended Tahawwur Rana's NIA custody by 12 days on April 28. On April 24, the court rejected his request to speak with his family members. On April 10, the court had sent Tahawwur Rana into NIA custody until April 28. The NIA arrested Tahawwur as soon as he landed at Delhi's Palam Air Force Station on the evening of April 10.

After the U.S. Supreme Court rejected Rana's plea against extradition, a team of Indian agencies went to the U.S. to bring him back. The 64-year-old Tahawwur Rana is a Pakistani-born Canadian citizen and a close associate of American national David Coleman Headley, also known as Dawood Gilani, one of the main conspirators of the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks.
