Delhi, 3 May (H.S.): Union Minister of State for Information & Broadcasting, Dr. L Murugan, launched the White Paper titled “India’s Live Events Economy: A Strategic Growth Imperative,” commissioned by the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting and prepared by EventFAQs Media for WAVES 2025. The event was attended by key officials including Sanjay Jaju, Secretary of the Ministry and other joint secretaries.

The White Paper analyzes India’s expanding live entertainment industry, highlighting trends, growth trajectories, and strategic recommendations. The sector is evolving from fragmentation to a structured part of the cultural and creative economy, with 2024-2025 marking a pivotal moment, as international acts like Coldplay perform in India.

Notable trends include the rise of event tourism, with nearly half a million attendees traveling for live music events, indicating a burgeoning music-tourism economy. Premium ticket segments have seen over 100% growth year-on-year, reflecting an experience-driven audience. Engagement from Tier-2 cities has surged due to multi-city tours and regional festivals.

The live entertainment sector increasingly contributes to job creation and skill development, generating 2,000 to 5,000 temporary jobs for large-scale events. Additional reports launched during the event included the Statistical Handbook on Media & Entertainment Sector 2024-25, and other studies by BCG and Ernst & Young.

With continued investment, policy support, and infrastructure improvements, India aims to become one of the top five global live entertainment destinations by 2030, fostering economic growth, employment, and cultural presence.
