New Delhi, 22 May (H.S.): On Wednesday, heavy rain and thunderstorms led to the diversion of at least 13 flights at Delhi's IGI airport, with 12 flights redirected to Jaipur and one international flight to Mumbai. The Delhi airport operator, DIAL, warned that weather conditions might continue to affect flight operations. Air India announced potential disruptions to flights in and out of Delhi due to the adverse weather. SpiceJet also cautioned that departures and arrivals could be impacted, advising travelers about possible issues with road traffic caused by heavy rains.
Delhi Airport issued an advisory urging passengers to check with their airlines for the latest flight updates amidst the weather-related challenges. IndiGo joined the advisories, mentioning that flights were affected by the storms and advising passengers to verify their flight status online. They also recommended allowing extra travel time due to potential road issues.
The inclement weather brought relief from intense heat to several regions in the national capital and nearby areas. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported a cloud mass pattern that caused dust storms and winds reaching up to 70 kmph, coupled with expected light rainfall. Furthermore, the IMD warned of a low-pressure area forming over the East Central Arabian Sea, which is anticipated to intensify into a depression, prompting warnings for fishermen due to rough sea conditions in various coastal regions of India.
