
Howrah, 21 May (H.S.): In a major breakthrough, the Cyber Crime Police Station under Howrah Police Commissionerate has successfully cracked a high-profile digital arrest fraud case. The accused, identified as Kapil Kumar (31), a resident of Gautam Budh Nagar in Uttar Pradesh, has been arrested for allegedly being involved in a cyber fraud amounting to Rs. 30 lakh.
According to the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Howrah, Rs. 20 lakh of the defrauded amount was transferred to the accused’s account. He then siphoned off Rs. 19.5 lakh through a financial service platform, Spice Money, and retained Rs. 50,000 for himself. During police interrogation, the accused admitted to his involvement in the crime and is currently in police custody.
Rs. 6.17 Lakh Recovered and Returned to Victim
In a swift operation, the police managed to recover Rs. 6.17 lakh — approximately 20.57% of the total defrauded amount — and returned it to the victim. Efforts are underway to trace and recover the remaining funds and to apprehend other members of the fraud network.
Kapil Kumar will be produced today before the Learned ACJM at Surajpur Court in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, for transit remand. Following this, he will be brought to Howrah and produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate. The investigation is being actively pursued to identify and arrest other individuals linked to the digital fraud ring.
