New Delhi, May 2 (HS): Following the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, the Supreme Court has temporarily halted the deportation of six family members to Pakistan. Justice Suryakant's bench directed the central government to verify their claims of Indian citizenship. No coercive measures will be taken against them until a decision is reached.

Petitioners dissatisfied with the government's decision can approach the Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh High Court. This comes after the central government ordered all Pakistani nationals in India to leave by April 27, following the murder of tourists on April 22.

Ahmed Tarek Butt, representing the family, asserted their Indian identity, backed by passports and Aadhaar cards, while two sons work in Bengaluru, with other family members in Srinagar.
