Delhi, 3 May (H.S.): Prime Minister Narendra Modi reaffirmed India's commitment to taking strong action against terrorism following the deadly Pahalgam attack, which claimed at least 26 lives, including those of foreign tourists. During a joint press conference with Angola's President João Lourenço in New Delhi, Modi stated, “We are united in our belief that terrorism is the biggest threat to humanity, expressing gratitude for Angola’s support and condolences related to the tragedy.
In response to the attack, India imposed an immediate ban on all imports from Pakistan and prohibited Pakistani-flagged ships from entering Indian ports, as announced by the Ministry of Commerce and the Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways. The ban, detailed in a notification dated May 2, is effective until further notice and has been incorporated into the Foreign Trade Policy (FTP) 2023.
The armed assault perpetrated by terrorists from Lashkar-e-Taiba occurred on April 22 in Pahalgam, which resulted in significant casualties. Although The Resistance Front, a faction of Lashkar, claimed responsibility initially, they later retracted it due to international backlash. India's response included downgrading diplomatic ties with Pakistan, suspending the Indus Water Treaty, and expelling Pakistani military attaches, alongside canceling visas for Pakistani nationals.
