New Delhi, May 2 (H.S.): The Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi has issued a notice to Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and other accused in the National Herald money laundering case. Special Judge Vishal Gogna ordered Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and seven other accused to appear in court on May 8.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) filed a prosecution complaint in court on April 15. The ED has implicated Congress leader Sonia Gandhi, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, and Sam Pitroda in this case. The complaint was filed under sections 44 and 45 of the money laundering law.
NK Mata, the Advocate representing the ED, stated that the CBI had registered an FIR in this case in 2019 under sections 403, 406, and 420 of the Indian Penal Code.
The complainant Subramanian Swamy has alleged that a conspiracy was hatched to take control of the 1600 crore rupee Herald House building located on Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg in Delhi, giving Young Indian Limited the rights to AJL's property. Swamy argues that the central government allocated the land for running a newspaper, thus it cannot be used for commercial purposes. Meanwhile, the Gandhi family has argued that the petition was filed in court with the intention to harass them without cause.
