New Delhi, May 2 (H.S.): The Patiala House Court in Delhi has postponed the hearing on the closure report filed by Delhi Police in the POCSO case registered against the former president of the Wrestling Federation of India, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. Additional Sessions Judge Gomati Manocha heard Delhi Police's partial arguments on the closure report. The next hearing in the case will take place on May 17.
Prior to this, the hearing had been postponed several times. The court had reserved its decision on August 1, 2023. During the hearing, the victimized minor wrestler and his father expressed satisfaction with the police investigation. Both the minor wrestler and his father provided their statements in-camera. In-camera means that no one other than the two parties is present during the hearing.
While hearing the Delhi Police's closure report, the court issued a notice to the complainant minor wrestler on July 4, 2023. On June 15, 2023, the Delhi Police filed a report in the Patiala House Court granting a clean chit to former MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. The Delhi Police requested to dismiss the charges against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, stating that no solid evidence was found against him in the POCSO case based on the complaint of the minor wrestler.
A case related to allegations of sexual harassment against female wrestlers is also ongoing against Brij Bhushan Singh in Delhi's Rouse Avenue Court. The Rouse Avenue Court has begun trial in this case from July 26 onwards.
