Imphal, 11 May (HS): Intensive operation is being conducted by security forces in various sensitive areas of Manipur. 13 rebels were arrested during the operation from various places in the state. While a large cache of weapons and explosives were also recovered.
Manipur Police PRO said on Sunday that during this drive, 7.62 SLR rifle, one magazine, one modified .303 rifle, one SBBL gun, two .22 rifles, one flare gun, two 9 mm pistols and two magazines, one pistol with empty magazine, one hand grenade (without detonator), one Baofeng handheld set, various types of bullets, two BP vests, jungle boots, white plastic bags and a sack were seized from Sajirok Turel Mpal (Imphal West) of Patsoi police station area.
A vigorous intelligence-based search operation is underway in the state to nab the accused involved in extortion activities.
In a similar operation, two KCP (PWG) outfits, Ningthoujam Kiran Meitei alias Boinao (29) and Sorukhaibam Inaocha Singh (45) were arrested from Imphal West. INSAS, AK rifle and .303 bullets, empty shells, Baofeng sets, BP vests, mobiles, Aadhar cards, four-wheelers and a green bag were seized from them.
In another operation, four KCP (MC Progressive) rebels were arrested from different places. They include Hidangmayum Harishankar Sharma, Hidangmayum Naoba Sharma, Oinam Jeet Singh and Laishram Inao Singh. Two pistols, 27 live cartridges, three-wheeler, two-wheeler, mobiles, wallets, cash and documents were recovered from them.
A KCP (Apumba) outfit Abujam Manoj Singh (21) was arrested from Salam Maning Laikai and a mobile phone and 46 rounds of 5.56 mm bullets were recovered from him.
Sogolsem Thoithoi alias Samson (44), a RPF/PLA outfit, was arrested from Lamsang police station area. Two mobile phones were seized from him.
A Prepak (Pro) outfit Ingudam Ingocha Singh (48) was arrested from Lamlai police station area and Sarangthem Premananda Singh (35) was arrested from Wangu police station area. Both are accused of being involved in arms, logistics and extortion.
A member of G5 outfit belonging to PREPAK, Salam Kifson Luwang (26) was arrested from Imphal West. A mobile phone and Aadhar card were recovered from him.
Ningombam Jitan Singh (45) of KCP (PWG) and Khangembam Ningthem Meitei (51) of PREPAK (PRO) outfit group were arrested from Thoubal district. Both are accused of involvement in extortion, new recruitment and illegal tax collection. Mobile phones and SIM cards were seized from them.
In these intelligence based operations going on in the state, a major crackdown has been carried out against the extortionists and this process will continue in future as well, police PRO added.-------------
