Hyderabad, April 7 (H.S.): In the match played on Sunday at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, the Gujarat Titans showcased a brilliant performance, defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad by 7 wickets, marking their third consecutive win. Meanwhile, this was Hyderabad's fourth straight loss, further weakening their position in the tournament.
Chasing a target of 153 runs set by Hyderabad, the Gujarat Titans had a shaky start, losing both their openers Sai Sudharsan (5 runs) and Jos Buttler (0 runs) by the third over. However, captain Shubman Gill (not out 61 runs) and all-rounder Washington Sundar (49 runs) formed a fantastic partnership of 90 runs for the third wicket, stabilizing the team. Gill scored a remarkable half-century off 43 balls, hitting 9 fours, while Sundar scored 49 runs off 29 balls, including 5 fours and 2 sixes, which was his highest score in IPL. After Sundar got out, Sherfane Rutherford played a quick innings of 35 runs off 16 balls, partnering with Gill to score 47 runs in just 21 balls, taking the team to the target in 16.4 overs.
For Hyderabad, Mohammed Shami took two wickets and Pat Cummins grabbed one wicket.
Earlier, batting after losing the toss, the Hyderabad team struggled completely, scoring 152 runs after losing 8 wickets in 20 overs. Nitish Reddy (31), Heinrich Klaasen (27), and captain Pat Cummins (22 not out) made some contributions, but the entire team seemed under pressure against the sharp bowling of Siraj. Mohammed Siraj took 4 wickets for just 17 runs. In addition, Prasidh Krishna and Sai Kishore took two wickets each, limiting Sunrisers to 152 runs while batting first.
