New Delhi, April 6 (HS): On the occasion of 'International Sports Day for Development and Peace' celebrated every year on April 6, Indian hockey stars joined the global #WhiteCard campaign and showed solidarity for the peace movement through sports. Like other cards in sports, the white card also holds powerful symbolism; however, unlike punitive cards, the white card symbolizes peace, inclusion, and hope.
According to Hockey India, this year's campaign draws attention to a serious global issue—460 million children live in conflict-affected areas and are deprived of safe spaces, such as sports fields, and access to quality education. In these challenging environments, sports become much more than just a game; it becomes a lifeline that nurtures skills such as collaboration, mutual respect, and resilience.
Players from the Indian women's hockey team shared special messages to mark the occasion. Veteran forward Lalremsiami from the Indian women's hockey team stated in a Hockey India release that sports has the power to break barriers and unite people, regardless of their background or language. The #WhiteCard campaign reflects the values by which we live on and off the field—respect, teamwork, and peace. I am proud to raise my white card and call for a more inclusive and safer world for children everywhere.
Indian team's goalkeeper Savita remarked, I have seen how sports can change lives. It has given me confidence and purpose, and it can do the same for children in conflict zones. By joining the #WhiteCard campaign, we hope to spread the message that every child should have a safe space to play, learn, and grow in peace.
Emerging star and drag-flicker Deepika stated, The hockey field has taught me discipline, courage, and respect. Sports is not just about winning medals; it is about building character and communities. This #WhiteCard campaign reflects our commitment to peace and a bright future for the next generation.
