Chennai, April 5 (HS): The 17th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season was played on Saturday between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Delhi Capitals (DC). In the match held at Chennai's M.A Chidambaram Stadium, Delhi defeated Chennai by 25 runs. Delhi batted first and scored 183 runs for the loss of six wickets in 20 overs. In response, the CSK team could only manage 158 runs, losing 5 wickets in their 20 overs.
This was DC's third consecutive win, while it marked CSK's third loss. In the points table, Delhi Capitals have reached the top with three wins out of three matches, earning 6 points. Meanwhile, Chennai Super Kings are in eighth place with three losses and one win from four matches.
Chasing a target of 184 runs, CSK had a poor start, losing three wickets in the powerplay. Opening batsman Rachin Ravindra scored three runs, captain Ruturaj Gaikwad made five runs, and Devon Conway was out for 13 runs. Shivam Dube, who came in as an impact sub, hit a couple of big shots but couldn’t score a big innings. Dube scored 18 runs from 15 balls, with one six and one four. After that, Ravindra Jadeja was out for 2 runs. Following Jadeja’s departure, MS Dhoni came to the crease and, along with Vijay Shankar, tried to steer the innings forward. Both made a strong effort to secure victory but fell short by 25 runs. Vijay Shankar scored an unbeaten 69 runs off 54 balls, including five fours and one six. Dhoni contributed with an unbeaten 30 runs off 26 balls.
For Delhi, Vipraj Nigam took 2 wickets, while Kuldeep Yadav, Mukesh Kumar, and Mitchell Starc took one wicket each.
Earlier, Delhi Capitals won the toss and opted to bat first. The team scored 183 runs for the loss of six wickets in 20 overs. KL Rahul was the top scorer for the team, making 77 runs off 51 balls, hitting six fours and three sixes. Abhishek Porel scored 33 runs off 20 balls. Captain Axar Patel contributed with 21 runs off 14 balls, and Sameer Rizvi scored 20 runs off 15 balls. Tristan Stubbs remained unbeaten on 24 runs off 12 balls.
For Chennai, fast bowler Khalil Ahmed took two wickets, while Ravindra Jadeja, Noor Ahmed, and Matheesha Pathirana each took one wicket.
