New Delhi, April 3 (HS) :World number two tennis player Iga Swiatek has withdrawn from the upcoming Billie Jean King Cup qualifying tournament. She announced this on social media on Wednesday.

The 23-year-old Swiatek stated that she needs more time to focus on her career and health, which is why she will not compete for the national team against Switzerland and Ukraine in Radom, Poland, from April 10 to 12.

Swiatek said, I know that this information may be disappointing for fans, especially Polish fans, but for now, this is the right decision for me.

She further added, I have always represented my country with pride. I played in all major tournaments for the country last year. I am proud of the team's historic success in the BJK Cup semifinals and the United Cup finals. Now it's time for me to maintain balance, focus on myself, and concentrate on my training. I wish my team and all the players the best of luck.

The five-time Grand Slam champion Swiatek recently lost to 19-year-old Alexandra Ela from the Philippines in the quarterfinals of the Miami Open.

Swiatek played the match amid heightened security, as a spectator had behaved inappropriately towards her during a practice session.
