Madrid, April 3 (HS): Barcelona booked their place in the Copa del Rey final on Wednesday by defeating Atletico Madrid 1-0, where they will face arch-rivals Real Madrid. After an exciting match held at the Metropolitano Stadium, Barcelona advanced with a total score of 5-4.
After an exhilarating first leg with eight goals, Ferran Torres scored in the 27th minute to give Barcelona a decisive lead. Following a brilliant pass from Lamine Yamal, Torres struck a fantastic shot from inside the box that found the net past goalkeeper Juan Musso.
In the second half, Atletico made numerous attempts to equalize, but substitute player Alexander Sørloth missed an easy chance, allowing Barcelona to maintain their lead and secure the victory.
Earlier, on Tuesday, Real Madrid managed a thrilling 4-4 draw against Real Sociedad to win 5-4 on aggregate. This means that after over a decade, there will be an 'El Clasico' matchup in the Copa del Rey final.
Real and Barcelona have faced each other in the Copa del Rey final 18 times, with Real winning 11 of those encounters. The last time Real won was in the 2014 final with a 2-1 scoreline.
This season, Barcelona has won both matches against Real Madrid – a 4-0 victory in La Liga in October and a stunning 5-2 win in the Spanish Super Cup final in January.
Both teams are in the race for three major titles this season. They have reached the Champions League quarter-finals and are competing against each other for the La Liga title.
Currently, Barcelona sits at the top of the La Liga table with 66 points, while Real Madrid is three points behind. Atletico Madrid is in third place, six points off the top two teams.
Real Madrid will face Arsenal in London next week in the Champions League quarter-finals, while Barcelona will play against Borussia Dortmund at home.
Both teams will meet in the final on April 26 at La Cartuja Stadium.
