London, April 2 (H.S.):The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) appointed Charlotte Edwards as the new head coach of the England Women’s Cricket Team on Tuesday. The former England captain, Edwards, has played over 300 matches for her country and won two World Cups and five Ashes trophies during her 20-year cricket career.

Since retiring in 2017, Edwards has coached in English domestic cricket and global T20 leagues. She has found success with Southern Vipers, Southern Brave in The Hundred, Sydney Sixers in the Women’s Big Bash League, and Mumbai Indians in the Women’s Premier League.

Expressing her excitement over her appointment, Edwards said, I am incredibly thrilled to be part of leading the England Women's Cricket Team again. It is a matter of pride for me to take this team forward and towards success. Wearing the Three Lions (the logo of England's national team) again is the greatest honor in the world for me. Captaincy of England has been a significant part of my life, and I will always be dedicated to this team and its legacy. We have a fantastic group of talented players, and I am excited to work with them and help them progress on both individual and team levels.

She further stated, We have an immediate challenge with two home series ahead, followed by this year’s ICC Women’s World Cup in India. Next year, there will also be the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in England, and after that, women's cricket will make its first appearance at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. I am ready to win trophies with this team and take it forward.

ECB's Deputy CEO and Managing Director of England Women’s Cricket, Clare Connor, said, When we set the criteria for this position, it quickly became clear that Charlotte Edwards was the best candidate.

She further added, She has the experience, passion, and expertise that can lead this team to success. As a head coach, she has delivered excellent results with different teams. This is a testament to her continuing efforts and high standards. She is a proven winner who has achieved continuous success both as a player and now as a coach.

Charlotte Edwards is currently joining the ECB from Hampshire. Her first match as head coach of the England Women’s Team will be on May 21 against West Indies in Canterbury. The announcement of the new captain of the England Women’s Team will be made soon.
