New Delhi, April 19 (H.S.): The Congress party has condemned the murder of Hindu leader Bhabesh Chandra Roy in Dinajpur, Bangladesh, describing it as a targeted attack on minorities there. Party General Secretary (Communications) Jairam Ramesh urged the Indian government to raise the matter with the Bangladesh government and press for an investigation to ensure strict action against the perpetrators.

In a statement today, Jairam Ramesh said that the Indian National Congress strongly condemns the brutal murder of a prominent leader of the Hindu community, Bhavesh Chandra Roy, in Dinajpur, Bangladesh. His tragic death due to abduction and assault serves as a grim reminder of the growing sense of insecurity among religious minorities in the region. He noted that this is not an isolated incident. In recent months, there have been numerous other disturbing incidents of attacks on minority communities in Bangladesh, including desecration of Hindu temples and targeted assaults on the homes and businesses of minorities. This attitude of threats and brutality cannot be overlooked.

He stated that Congress urges the Indian government to raise this matter with utmost urgency and pressure the Bangladesh government to ensure a swift and transparent investigation and bring the culprits to justice. Jairam Ramesh reiterated the party's demand for the protection, respect, and complete safeguarding of the rights of religious minorities in Bangladesh. When such targeted violence is allowed to fester, silence and inaction are not options. The Indian National Congress stands in solidarity with the Hindu community in Bangladesh and all those who believe in secularism, justice, and human rights.

In a recent incident of minority violence in Bangladesh, Bhavesh Chandra Roy, a prominent leader of the Hindu community in Dinajpur district, was abducted from his home on Friday night and was brutally beaten to death by a group of attackers on motorcycles. Bhavesh Chandra Roy was the vice president of the Biral unit of the Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Council and was also a prominent leader of the Hindu community in the area.
