Chandigarh, April 19 (HS): The Punjab Police has uncovered two ISI-supported terrorist modules being operated from abroad under the control of Babbar Khalsa International. The police have recovered a large quantity of weapons and explosives, including two rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs) along with a launcher, from their possession. These terrorist modules, supported by the Pakistani intelligence agency ISI, were controlled by Babbar Khalsa International, with the two main operatives being Satnam Singh alias Satta based in France and Jaswinder Singh alias Mannu Agwan based in Greece.
Punjab Police Director General Gaurav Yadav stated on Saturday that through intelligence operations, Counter Intelligence (CI) Jalandhar and the district police of Batala effectively dismantled both modules and arrested 13 terrorists, including a minor. The DGP mentioned that the roles of these terrorists had previously come to light in various operations, including Satnam’s involvement in the 2010 IED and RDX seizure case.
He noted that in addition to the two RPGs and one launcher, police teams seized two improvised explosive devices (IEDs) weighing 2.5 kg each, two hand grenades including detonators, two kilograms of RDX along with a remote control device, and five Beretta and Glock pistols. Additionally, six magazines and 44 cartridges, a wireless set, and three vehicles were also confiscated.
DGP Gaurav Yadav emphasized that by exposing these modules, the Punjab Police thwarted a conspiracy by the Pakistan-ISI to disrupt peace and harmony in the border state.
Jalandhar's AIG Navjot Singh Mahal reported that based on intelligence information, police teams arrested Jagroop Singh from Basti Amritsari in Hoshiarpur, Jatinder Singh alias Honey from Daburji in Kapurthala, Harpreet Singh from Dharmkot Hoshiarpur, and Jagjit Singh from Kapurthala, confiscating weapons and explosive materials from them.
He stated that preliminary investigations revealed that these accused were operating under the directives of Satnam Satta based in France.
Further investigations are ongoing to uncover the entire network and to attempt to trace previous crimes that have been committed.
Sharing details related to the other module's operation, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Batala Suhail Qasim Meer mentioned that during this week-long operation based on intelligence information, police teams arrested nine individuals, including a 17-year-old minor. The other eight individuals arrested were identified as Pawanpreet Singh, Balbir Kumar alias Varun, Gomji alias Gota, Gurpreet Singh alias Gopi, Ajaypal Singh, Rahul alias Bhaiya, and Johanson, all residents of Batala and Jatinder from Kapurthala.
