Bareilly,
17 April (HS): Krishna Chandra, the Child Development Project Officer from
Bareilly, has been suspended as part of the Uttar Pradesh government's
anti-corruption operation for his involvement in a bribery scam. This comes after claims of bribery in the
recruiting process for anganwadi personnel, with monetary exchanges being
required from candidates. Following a report
to District Magistrate Ravindra Kumar, an inquiry led by Chief Development
Officer Jag Pravesh revealed that Chandra had sought Rs 1.65 lakh from one
candidate, with a partial payment already made.
Surprisingly, a larger payment of Rs 2.5 lakh from another candidate
called Asha resulted in the rejection of the initial applicant's form, despite
superior qualifications.
Video
footage supported the charges, causing the Director of Child Development and
Nutrition Department to suspend Chandra and initiate disciplinary procedures
under Rule 7 of the UP Government Servant (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1999. Chandra is now undergoing further
investigation while on suspension, posted to Shahjahanpur's District Programme
Office and getting subsistence payment.
