Nagpur, 16 Apr (HS): Maharashtra Congress workers
led by prominent party leaders took out a peace march on Wednesday in the
riot-affected areas of Nagpur. The march was led by Maharashtra Unit President
Harshawardhan Sapkal. On March 17, Nagpur faced riots on the issue of the removal
of Moghul King Aurangazeb’s tomb from Khultabad in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar
(Earlier Aurangabad).
Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee took out a
march after one month of the riots, during which a large number of vehicles
were damaged, police personnel and others were injured. As many as 110 suspects
were arrested, including the mastermind of the riots, Faheem Khan.
The MPCC ‘Sadhbhavna’ March began after garlanding
the statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, in the Mahal area, wherefrom the riots
began. The party workers moved through various parts of the East Nagpur singing
Mahatma Gandhi’s favourite Bhajan ‘Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram…’. Sapkal said
that the main objective of Congress is to maintain brotherhood among people of
all religions and castes. He alleged Bharatiya Janata Party of dividing the
people.
