Cultural Roots Essential for Sustainable Progress: Odisha Governor at Puri Literary Festival 2025

Bhubaneswar, 18 April (H.S.): Emphasizing the importance of cultural identity amid rapid global change, Odisha Governor Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati today said that staying rooted in tradition is essential for responsible and inclusive development. He was addressing the inaugural session of the Puri Literary Festival 2025, held in the historic coastal town of Puri.

“It is a great pleasure to be in Puri—a city rich in spiritual and cultural heritage. This festival is a celebration not only of our legacy but also of our collective future,” said Dr. Kambhampati.

Highlighting Puri’s symbolic significance, the Governor said the city represents the soul of India’s age-old traditions. Referring to the philosophical concept of Samavaya, which signifies harmony and coexistence, he underlined the relevance of platforms like the literary festival in bridging tradition with modernity.

“The Puri Literary Festival does not treat our culture as a relic of the past. Instead, it revives and reinterprets it, offering guidance for today’s world,” he said. Commending the event for bringing together authors, artists, architects, thinkers, and youth, the Governor noted that such gatherings reflect India’s inclusive approach to progress. “We are not leaving our past behind; we are carrying it forward,” he added.

Dr. Kambhampati also spoke on India’s emerging global role, asserting that true development must be rooted not only in innovation and policy reforms but also in cultural values. “Our strength lies in diversity, respectful dialogue, and dignity,” he said.

The Governor concluded by stating that the message of the festival is clear—India’s cultural and literary heritage remains vibrant, relevant, and instrumental in shaping the future. “Ancient wisdom and modern ideas need not conflict—they can coexist and enrich each other,” he emphasized.

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, in a video message, extended his congratulations to the organizers and participants for the successful launch of the festival.

Local MP Dr. Sambit Patra also addressed the gathering, noting that every word exchanged at the festival would contribute to the enrichment of Indian literature and culture.

Festival President Om Priyadarshi Chhotray also spoke on the occasion, marking the beginning of what is expected to be a vibrant celebration of ideas, art, and identity.
