Mumbai, April 1(H.S.): Mumbai Indians have registered their first win in IPL 2025. In the first match of the season played at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai defeated Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by 8 wickets. Chasing a modest target of 117 runs, Mumbai achieved victory with 43 balls to spare, thanks to an unbeaten half-century from Ryan Rickelton.
To chase the target of 117 runs set by Kolkata, Mumbai Indians opened their innings with Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton. The duo added 46 runs for the first wicket. Rohit fell prey to Andre Russell after scoring 13 runs. Following that, Will Jacks and Rickelton put together a partnership of 45 runs to strengthen the team’s position. Jacks also became Russell's second victim, scoring 16 runs. Later, Suryakumar Yadav provided an aggressive display, scoring 27 runs off 9 balls (3 fours, 2 sixes) and led Mumbai to a comfortable victory.
Earlier, Mumbai Indians' bowlers restricted KKR to just 116 runs. Debutant Ashwani Kumar and experienced Deepak Chahar delivered impressive bowling. Mumbai's captain won the toss and opted to bowl first, a decision justified by the bowlers. During the powerplay, KKR's top 4 batsmen returned to the pavilion. The entire team was bowled out for 116 runs in 17 overs. Ashwani Kumar made a stunning debut by taking 4 wickets.
For Kolkata, Angkrish Raghuwanshi scored the highest at 26 runs. Additionally, Ramandeep Singh contributed 22 runs, Manish Pandey scored 19, and Rinku Singh added 17 runs.
