Newcastle upon Tyne, 30 March (H.S.): Newcastle was awash with black and white on Saturday as 150,000 fans filled the streets for an open-top bus parade celebrating the Magpies' League Cup victory. The team's 2-1 win over Liverpool on March 16 marked their first major trophy since 1969 and their first domestic cup in 70 years. Despite the prolonged gap in success, the club boasts one of the most passionate fanbases in English football.

Manager Eddie Howe expressed his gratitude, noting the incredible support as fans clung to lampposts and filled buildings around St. James' Park.

The parade began at the stadium, moving through the city center to Town Moor, where players and club legends took the stage. Club record goalscorer Alan Shearer reflected on the celebrations, sharing, I don't know where I am... the best two weeks of my life.

Local hero Dan Burn, who scored in the final and made his England debut shortly after, emphasized the emotional impact of the moment on the city, stating it’s something he would never forget. The event concluded with a drone show from club sponsors Sela, highlighting Newcastle's revival since their 2021 takeover by the Saudi sovereign wealth fund.

The Magpies reached the Champions League last season for the first time in 20 years and currently sit sixth in the Premier League, with a chance to move into the top four if they win their game in hand against Crystal Palace.
