Telangana CM Revanth Reddy Opposes Delimitation Plans for 2026 Lok Sabha Seats

Hyderabad, 27 March (H.S.): The Telangana government has passed a resolution in the Legislative Assembly opposing the Centre’s plans to carry out the delimitation of Lok Sabha seats following the 2026 population census. Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy brought attention to the fact that the Centre's failure to increase assembly seats for Telangana and Andhra Pradesh as per the AP Reorganisation Act of 2014 was a clear indication of their intentions.

He also highlighted the Centre's double standards by pointing out their delimitation of constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir and Sikkim, while claiming to not be considering it for southern states. Reddy firmly demanded that delimitation be conducted by considering each state as a unit, ensuring an increase in SC and ST seats, and raising the number of assembly seats in Telangana through constitutional amendments.

He made it clear that the southern states would not accept a population-based delimitation, as it would be unjust to those that have followed the reorganisation act.
