New Delhi, March 30 (H.S.): A mahapanchayat was held on Sunday at Jantar Mantar advocating for the Waqf Amendment Bill and demanding the abolition of the Waqf Board, organized by the 'Population Solution Foundation.' Attendees included workers from various organizations and citizens nationwide, who collectively urged the cancellation of the Waqf Board.
A memorandum to this effect was sent to the President, Prime Minister, and Home Minister. Anil Chaudhary, National President of the Population Solution Foundation, emphasized that post-partition, properties of Muslims migrating to Pakistan were allocated to Muslims in India in 1954. He noted that amendments in 1955, 1995, and 2013 granted the Board extensive rights over these properties, resulting in widespread illegal land occupations affecting other religious followers.
Legal objections are only heard in the Waqf Board Tribunal, allowing the Board to become among India's largest landowners after the Army and Railways. Co-organizers such as Pinky Chaudhary and Preet Sirohi, along with speakers like Mahant Nawal Kishore Das, called for the Waqf Board's dissolution, with proceedings led by Mamta Sehgal. Hundreds of activists participated in the event.
