Guwahati, March 30 (H.S): Upasa Phukan, the only daughter of Assam's former Home Minister and prominent leader of the Assam Movement, Bhrigu Kumar Phukan, died under mysterious circumstances on Sunday morning. The incident took place in a multi-story building in the Kharguli area of Guwahati.

According to local residents, Upasa Phukan jumped from the second-floor terrace of the building, in what is suspected to be a suicide. The incident occurred at around 8 AM. Her mother was present at home at the time. Eyewitnesses stated that Upasa's mother had stepped outside to wash utensils when Upasa jumped from the terrace.

Hearing a loud noise, her mother rushed to the spot and found Upasa bleeding from her nose and mouth. She immediately informed nearby residents. Local people also gathered at the scene.

Initially, Upasa Phukan showed some signs of life and was quickly taken to a private hospital. However, as her condition worsened, she was transferred to the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), where doctors declared her dead.

Upasa Phukan was the only child of Bhrigu Kumar Phukan. Her mysterious death has left the entire area in shock. The police have started an investigation to determine the cause of the incident.
