Imphal, 23 March (HS): A huge quantity of arms, ammunition and other suspicious material has been recovered in operations conducted by security forces in various areas of Manipur.
Manipur Police PRO said on Sunday that during an operation at Moltinchan village, Kakching district under Sugnu police station area, security forces recovered 01 local ponpi, 02 single barrel guns, 01 .303 rifle, 01 modified CMG carbine, nine .303 live cartridges, four 7.62 mm live cartridges, three IEDs (1.5 kg, one kg and 600 grams), 15 AK-47 empty cartridges, 20 nos. .303 empty cartridges, 20 nos. 7.62 mm empty cartridges, 32 INSAS empty cartridges, 03 Pompy shells, 02 BP helmets, 02 jungle boots, 04 BP jackets, 02 tear gas smoke shells, 16 tear smoke shells and other items.
Besides, in another operation at Pukhao Santipur under Sagolmung Police Station area of Imphal East district, 01 SBBL Gun, 01 Pompy Launcher, 01 locally made Gun, two 7.62 mm SLR live cartridges, eight 12 bore cartridges, 01 stun shell, 05 tear smoke shell, 08 locally made shell, 02 BP jacket cover, 02 BP iron plate and 02 walkie-talkie sets were seized.
04 Bolt Action Single Barrel Gun and 15 12 bore cartridges were recovered at Henbung village of Senapati district. Whereas, 18 Pompy Gun, 01 HE Rocket and 01 locally made projectile launching weapon were seized from K. Langhnom and Khengjang of Kangpokpi district.
According to other information, four people were injured in the attack by unidentified group. On Saturday, around 15-20 unidentified armed men, suspected to be from the Arambai Tenggol (AT) group, attacked the residence of a UNLF(P) activist, Irengbam Nandakumar Singh alias Tonsana (56) in Imphal East, police said. In the clash, four UNLF(P) cadres were injured with sticks and batons. Firing was also reported from both sides. Security forces rushed to the spot and shifted the injured to a hospital where they are said to be out of danger.
On Saturday itself, security forces raided an office of Arambai Tenggol Unit-17 Khurai, Imphal East district and recovered 04 hunting boots, 03 four wheelers, 01 BP helmet, 02 BP jackets, 15 grams of suspected heroin, 01 camouflage bag, 05 rifle slings, 04 tactical belts, 08 BP plates, 02 light BP plates, 02 holsters, 01 mobile phone, 01 magazine pouch, 03 wireless handsets, 04 wireless chargers, 01 tear gas smoke shell, 01 INSAS bayonet, two .303 bayonets, 02 swords, 02 stallion boxes, 02 knee pads, 04 Arambai Tenggol Unit-17 banners and 103 used cartridges.
Police crackdown on those spreading fake news
Apart from this, Manipur Police has registered an FIR against six WhatsApp groups and channels spreading fake and provocative news in Churachandpur district. Police have warned that legal action will be taken against other such channels as well.-------------
