Mumbai, 22 February (HS): Mumbai Police has arrested 299 Bangladeshi citizens in the last 45 days by raiding various areas of the city. Earlier also, action has been taken against about 150-160 illegal Bangladeshi citizens every year.
Mumbai Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Satyanarayan Chaudhary said on Saturday that in the last 45 days, we have arrested 299 Bangladeshi citizens, which is the highest number till date. In previous years, about 150-160 Bangladeshi citizens were arrested, who were living illegally in India. Most of these accused entered the country through various border routes. We have instructed all the police stations in Mumbai to take strict action against illegal Bangladeshi immigrants living without valid passports and visas. Chaudhary said that there is a special branch of the police, which is actively deporting illegal immigrants to their respective countries like Pakistan and Bangladesh. We are also working with Aadhaar and PAN card centers to verify documents. Because many Bangladeshi citizens make fake documents to claim Indian citizenship.
According to sources, the arrested Bangladeshi citizens told the police that they enter India for employment through different routes.
