Guwahati, 08 December (HS): The BJP on Monday highlighted unprecedented development in Karbi Anglong, Dima Hasao and the Barak Valley under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma. BJP spokesperson Dr Zafreen Mehjabin said decades of Congress neglect had ended, with the hills and the Barak–Brahmaputra region witnessing rapid progress.

She said the government has implemented several major projects, including compensation approval for 884 families for four-lane highway construction in Dima Hasao and administrative sanction for Assam’s second Sainik School at Longva in Karbi Anglong worth ₹335 crore. The newly built Umrangso cricket stadium was also inaugurated earlier this week.

As part of the peace accord commitments, ₹500 crore has been sanctioned for the rehabilitation of former DNLA members and for strengthening connectivity in Dima Hasao.

In a major boost for Barak Valley, the Cabinet has approved transfer of 3,000 bighas of land at Dolu Tea Estate to the Airports Authority of India for a Greenfield Airport. Cancer care facilities at Silchar Medical College have become operational, while funds have been granted to Ramakrishna Mission Sevashram for expanded healthcare services. The Mini Secretariat project in the valley is nearing completion, and the government is pushing waterway trade and an upcoming industrial park under the Namami Barak Mission.
