Guwahati, 31 December (HS):

Guwahati has made a significant leap in the national cleanliness rankings in 2025, securing the 44th position across the country. The city has improved remarkably from its earlier ranking of 402, marking a major achievement in urban sanitation and civic management.

Mayor of the Guwahati Municipal Corporation, Mrigen Sarania, expressed gratitude to the residents of the city for their cooperation and collective efforts, stating that the sharp rise in ranking reflects the growing public awareness and participation in cleanliness initiatives.

The Mayor also informed that a special project for scientific waste disposal has been undertaken at Boragaon, aimed at strengthening solid waste management in the city. As part of infrastructure development, around 34,000 street lights have been installed across Guwahati this year at a cost of ₹80 crore to improve safety and urban lighting.

Looking ahead, Mayor Sarania announced that development projects worth ₹132 crore will be taken up from January to further accelerate Guwahati’s growth and improve civic amenities for its residents.---------
